What we’re working on

We are actively tracking and addressing multiple large-scale projects that could significantly impact Leon County:

  • Project Kahla – Proposed battery energy storage system (BESS) project
  • Pecan BESS – Proposed battery energy storage system project
  • Great Rock BESS – Proposed battery energy storage system project

Why this matters

These projects can bring long-term impacts related to public safety, fire risk, water usage, infrastructure strain, land use, and property values.

For example, Project Kahla is proposed to be located less than two miles from Leon ISD, where Pre-K through 12th grade students attend school. Proximity to schools, homes, and critical infrastructure raises important questions that deserve careful evaluation and transparent public discussion.

Responsible growth means taking the time to understand risks, ensure appropriate siting, and give residents a meaningful voice before decisions are made.
